How to choose a high chair for babies

Friday, July 3rd, 2009

It is important to use high chairs rather than normal chairs when sitting a baby at the table. High chairs essential and will allow your baby to eat in a safe and secure environment.

By 6 or 8 months, most babies are usually strong enough to sit straight and to share a meal with their family. This moment is always a big moment in every family who are looking forward to see junior at the table too! However, for their safety, babies should be placed in an adapted chair where they will not fall. Several models of baby chairs are sold on the market and choosing can sometimes be a nightmare for parents.

Different models

All high chairs for babies and young children are equipped with a tablet and a footrest. The tablet has two functions: one to allow the baby to eat (and play!) and two to prevent the baby from falling forward. Also, baby chairs all have safety harness to keep baby in place in their seat and to prevent them from slipping off the chair. Finally, some newer models also have a crotch that will prevents the baby from sliding under the tablet.

There are several types of baby chairs available to you. Wooden chairs are often preferred because of their stability, their durability and their fancier look. Although they can be pricy, baby chairs can easily be used toward the second and third child (and fourth…). The nice wooden look attract many parents. But remember that many wooden high chairs can not be dismantled, therefore making storage an issue. Also, it would be nearly impossible to bring those wooden chair on holidays. Plastic baby chairs usually have a more modern look and have the advantage of coming with a lot of useful features (foldable back, storage, wheels). Many of the plastic high chairs can be dismantled or folded, allowing them to be stored or brought in the care easily.

The selection criteria

Between wood and plastic, parent’s choice often leans towards the most attractive models to their taste. Whether your decision goes toward wood or plastic, other criteria used to choose your baby chair are numerous and the same. First, you should choose a high chair that you will be able to use even when your baby becomes a little bit older. Ideally choose a chair that will be good until your child reaches 3 years old. The best chairs are the ones which you can adjust the height but for which you also can do some adjustment for the footrest. Some high chairs also offer a removable tablet for when the child becomes older. The child can then share a meal directly at table with the parents and the siblings. If you have a small apartment, choose a high chair that is can be folded and dismantled for easy storage. It is also preferable to choose a model that does not come with an integrated cushion. Instead, buy a separate ergonomic cushion and change it accordingly to your baby’s needs.

Fit for Royalty – Luxury Bedding for Babies

Friday, February 27th, 2009

Luxury baby bedding is the perfect way to lavish your baby with comfort for a very good reason. The bedding is quite important because it is in contact with your infant most of the time. We all know how little tots like to sleep all the time in their crib. You can make their sleeping experience even more special by lining their little beds with posh beddings made of the finest materials.

You should be prepared when your bundle of joy arrives into your home and have the perfect sleeping area for him or her, their bed. If you know your baby’s gender in advance, you can start buying posh beddings for your baby already.

You can break down your search for the perfect bedding for your little one into two categories, the bassinet and the cradle.

The Bassinet

The bassinet is the first piece of sleeping furniture that you will purchase for your little one. It is perfect for newborn infants. You don’t want your child to sleep in bed with you because that is too dangerous for your baby. Having a baby in the room also means that there will be no sleep for you and your husband alike.

Since your baby is the only person who will be staring into the insides of the bassinet almost all day and all night long, it should have a stimulating color that will help develop their eyesight. You have to realize that it is the first the baby will see when they first open their eyes. So it also should not be too stimulating. It is best to find a good color combination that will not overwhelm the little tyke.

The baby’s skin is very smooth and delicate so it should only be in contact with material that will not harm your baby’s skin.

The Cradle

This is the next piece of furniture that your baby will sleep on. Once the child can get up on their own or is more than 20 pounds in weight, it is time to replace the bassinet with the cradle.

Cradles are more open than bassinets so you should consider the design of the inside more. It should be able to correspond with the theme of the nursery of the baby because that is where the cradle will be situated all the time. Unlike the bassinet, you cannot easily move the cradle around. The nursery is its home.

The Bedding

Choose baby bedding that is very easy to wash because you’ll never know if your baby might have a potty accident without a diaper on. And remember that just because you will be changing the bedding often does not mean that they should not be stylish. The bedding will be surrounding the baby and you want it to look posh and lavish.

To make life easier for you, purchase cradle beddings that come in sets. These sets come complete with the sheet itself, cradle bumpers for the protection of your little one and maybe even a very cozy down comforter just big enough for you little bundle of joy.
