How to Create the Perfect Capsule Wardrobe

Saturday, August 1st, 2009

When you get to a certain age it slowly starts to dawn on us ladies that over the years we’ve probably accumulated more clothes in our wardrobe (not to mention the spare bedroom’s wardrobes, every chests of drawers in the house, all the bedside tables, the attics, under the bed, kitchen drawers and even in the garage) than we could possibly wear in a year.  And yet we never have anything to wear!

If that sounds like you then follow these few basic guidelines and not only will you suddenly have tons of space in your home for important things like the grandchildren’s letters and pictures, but you will also have a streamlined capsule wardrobe and always something nice to wear.

Firstly – be ruthless.  Sort through your clothes and throw everything that you haven’t worn in the last year in to the charity shop pile. If all the four seasons have passed and you haven’t worn something then it is extremely unlikely you are going to wear it ever again.  Don’t hold on to anything that’s too small in the (vain!) hope that you will slim in to it one day.

Next, sort out the remaining clothes in to different colours.  How many colours do you have?  Most people over forty should stick to a basic palette consisting of a few colours that they know suit them.  If there’s a little top or blouse standing out on its own because it’s lime green, or custard yellow then are you really sure the colour’s you?  If not, then bung it in the charity pile!

Anything that’s torn or a bit dirty then put into a rubbish pile, as however nice you look in something there is nothing worse than stains or bursting seams.

Now you have the start of your ideal capsule wardrobe.  The next step is to check that you have the 10 or so essential clothes items that every woman, no matter what her age, should have.  These are the clothes it is worth spending a little more on – spend wisely and they will form the basis of your outfit every day, whatever the occasion.

These include well fitting underwear, a versatile silk scarf or pashmina and beautifully cut separates that you can mix and match.  Ensure you have a tailored jacket or blazer that you can dress up or down and invest in a cashmere or wool coat in a classic colour and cut as it will go with everything and last you years and years.

If you don’t already, next sort out your wardrobe in to winter and summer clothes.  Now’s the perfect time to pack away all your summer skirts and linen dresses.  Take a little time to fold them properly, place tissue paper in between, and remember to pop in a little sachet of lavender, and you’ll be rewarded next year with a summer wardrobe that’s ready to go as soon as the sun comes out.

Finally colour code your clothes.  Some people advise hanging skirts and jackets and so on together but I would recommend that you put similar colours together.  Not only will this look much nicer it suddenly becomes so easy to find things.  If you haven’t the space to hang everything, put similar tops and jumpers together in to clear boxes so you can see what is inside or label them on the outside.

All this will only take a couple of hours or so and it’s well worth the effort.  You may never say you have nothing to wear ever again!

Clear Your Wardrobe: Create An Image That You Love!

Monday, June 15th, 2009

First impressions count whether we like it or not.

And how you feel about how you look matters even more because a confident positive attitude will create a positive flow of energy around you.

Imagine two identical yous. You come into a room and there you are. What do you think about your image, your clothes, your general demeanour? Are you delighted with what you see? Do you look comfortable in your skin?

Find three words that describe what you see.

What were your words: comfortable, stylish, approachable, sexy, smart?

If your words weren’t so positive it could be time for a change.

How do you want to feel inside your clothes? Find three words that you would like to be able to use about yourself all the time.

Step 1: The Big Picture
There are many roles we live out: worker, lover, mother, father, sports person, clubber, gardener and we tend to have different clothes to fit each role.

What are your roles? Identify them.

Are there gaps in your wardrobe? Is there anything that’s missing? Do you have an imbalance in your wardrobe? Does your wardrobe reflect your current roles?

Step 2: Subtract
When you go through your wardrobe you can be ruthless – look at each item of clothing? What role does each item belong to?

With each item ask yourself the following questions:

Do I ever wear it?
Does it fit and suit me?
Do I love it?
Does it satisfy my three key words?

If it does not fit these criteria just ask yourself: Why do I still own it? Is it time to throw it out?

Step 3: Add
You’ve gone through and got rid of the items that don’t serve you. You may not have very much left in your wardrobe but what you do have will be the things that reflect who you are.

You are half-way there.

Now its time to add to what you love and build yourself a wardrobe that makes you feel a million dollars.

Create the image that you want for yourself. When you feel good you will look good and ooze with confidence and charisma.

1)What are the gaps in your wardrobe?
2)What would you really love to wear but have never owned
3)What colours and styles suit you?
4)What clothes would really suit your personality and inner style?

Now you can begin to build yourself a style that you feel at ease with. A style that reflects who you are.

Less is more: it’s not how much you have it’s what you do with what you’ve got! For lots more free information and help visit: http://www.beclutterfree.co.uk

Are You Trying To Create A Luxurious Look While Planning Your Compact Bathroom Designs?

Saturday, May 16th, 2009

Are you looking for some great luxury bathroom designs to use on a small space?

Although many homeowners think they have to give up the dream of having a luxurious bathroom if they have only a small space to work with, the reality is that there are numerous small bathroom design floor plans and compact bathroom designs that you can utilize in order to achieve a luxurious bathroom, despite being pressed for space.

Some basics you will need to keep in mind when designing a luxurious bathroom within a small space include…

It’s All About the Shower
Although you are working with a small space, it doesn’t mean your shower has to be bare-bone basic. By eliminating a tub, you can enjoy a larger shower — and you can make it even more luxurious by choosing a rain-shower head and multiple body jets. By creating a shower base that is curved rather than square, you can also create the illusion of extra space in your bathroom.

Minimize The Sink
Bulky sinks don’t belong in compact bathroom designs, as they only make the bathroom look crowded and small. Consider installing a pedestal sink to create a luxurious look, while saving on space. You can always install wall cabinets in order to enjoy added storage space.

Keep Organized
Luxury bathroom designs always incorporate ways to keep the bathroom looking tidy, but this is even more important when you are working within a small space. Cluttered rooms look smaller, so be sure to include storage devices such as shower caddies, shelving and baskets in order to keep your bathroom tidy.

Brighten It Up
Luxury bathroom designs also include plenty of lighting so you can accurately apply makeup, comfortably get dressed, and otherwise enjoy your bathroom area. Lighting is also an important component of compact bathroom designs because it helps make the space look bigger; be sure to use plenty of lighting and to incorporate mirrors and sliding glass doors to help open up the space.

The reality is that you don’t have to give up your dreams of luxury just because you have a small bathroom space. By implementing the same tricks that are used within small bathroom design floor plans, by adding plenty of luxury items to your décor, you will be sure to get the results that you will truly love. A small bathroom can offer a luxurious bathroom experience.

Materials like high quality linen, silk with beautiful motifs and cotton fabrics especially linen are the most popular choices for natural and soft bedding sheets.

Luxury bedding just by itself can accentuate and bring beauty to your room without any accessories or alterations. use neutral colours like ivory, light green, white or taupe and smaller detailing for the bedroom curtains. You need not colour coordinate everything, just use colours that complement each other or create a monochromatic style by using different shades of the same colour.

One can always buy neutral bedding and spice it up with pillows which have designs to add a dash of colour to your neutral bedding. You can keep changing the colours of pillow covers. This is the best way to bring a variety of different looks into the room.

If your room is crowded with furniture, you can also go opt a headboard covered with a neutral fabric so that it makes your room look less crowded. One advantage of using luxury bedding is that it is available in standard sizes as well as king size and super king size to fit your bed perfectly irrespective of its size.

Always keep in mind decorating your bedroom in a way that appeals to you not just because it is in fashion. This includes your bed as well, it should be functional, comfortable and stylish. Luxury bedding can be bought from discount stores or on online retailers so that the overall cost is very affordable. If you are not in a mood to go for the lacklustre neutral bedding, then go ahead and experiment with colours but only do that after considerable thought, as you may find it too overpowering!

If you have a neutrally coloured bedroom then you can buy bedding that is black or colourful in order to make your room look lively. Opt for patterns to inject style as well as colour and choose a compilation of shades to add a sense of cohesion and balance.

White and cream coloured bedding needs to be crisp, simple and plain. They can be accentuated by lighter prints, embroidery, sequins, or better still decorate them with colourful accessories like throws, boudoir style pillows or the latest trends of bed runners. You can also keep changing your bedding to suit the mood of changing seasons. Clear and calming whites are a better option during summers, alternatively you could go for brighter green or cool summer prints to coordinate with white. You can use warm orange or vivacious red during chilly winters to create a feeing of sensuous warmth.

Keep your bed simple and clean, as overdoing anything will actually make the bed look cluttered rather than calming, coordinated, reversible bed sets are the ideal option.

Create Stylish Bedrooms With Luxury Bedding

Friday, January 16th, 2009

Do you feel your bedroom looks plain? Do you feel bored by the look of your bedroom? Help is at hand, with a few simple tips you can transform your bedroom a into stylishly chic room which won’t break the bank!

A person can give one’s bedroom a makeover in several ways:

* Change the furniture, this is a costly way to transform you bedroom unless you opt for a shabby chic style of design.

* Add wooden furniture to your bedroom. Natural materials are definitely in-vogue with interior designers. The great advantage with natural wood it that it blends effortlessly with any colour scheme.

* Change the colours of your wall and artwork. By simply painting the walls will refresh a bedroom. The use of wall paper has seen a huge revival recently, having just one wall or the entire bedroom wallpapered will dramatically change its appearance.

* Add accessories like lamps and bedside table keepsakes. Try not to over clutter, just add a few very chic pieces as focal points.

* Of course, the best way to make your room stylish is by changing that bedding of yours! This is not only easy but you can create different looks throughout the year by changing your duvet sets.

If you do not want to take much of a risk and make your bedroom look simple and stylish then the best way you could do that is by adding crisp bedding that has neutral prints and shades. If you do not like multiple pillows, you could go for one big pillow as well. This keeps your bed looking clutter free.

If you want to get style with luxury then velvet bedding and embroidered sets are a good choice. However, beware as some shades can make your bed look tacky so while choosing colours make sure you choose colours which harmonise with the room.

If you want the look of designer beddings at cheaper costs try appliqués with the print and colours of your choice on complementary beddings. This is a sure-fire way to make your bedding look designer made.

Adding bedding and pillow covers that have laces and frills on the edges gives that luxurious and opulent look for your bedroom. What’s more, with the choices available in shades and patterns you can have your own distinct style by stitching laces of your choice onto your bedding. One useful tip is to not overdo the lace as this can make your room look too over the top, subtlety is the key to great interiors. Embellishments, delicate sequins and button work on your bedding can not only add colour and texture, but also make your bedding look more stylish.

One can also choose ruffles instead of lace to create their look. Ruffles complete a bedding and pillowcase. However, be careful when you choose the colours as this can either make your bedding look stylish by adding a hint of colour or make it look like a mismatched upholstery on a bedding, which does not give you any specific design look, which can end up looking like a shambles rather then chic.

If you are not a big fan of designs and prints then the best way to make your room look stylish is by using bedding made of Egyptian cotton having a high thread count or using satin sheets. Earthy colours or pure white look best on Egyptian sheets with rich, deep colours make satin sheets look, sexy, sumptuous and beautiful.

Above all, make sure your luxury bedding is pulled back tightly over your bed as this just makes your bed look impeccable, unless of course you like the ‘unmade’ bed casual chic style!
