Leather Sofa Set – A crucial part of modern day interiors for the living room

Friday, February 5th, 2010

Modern furniture and interiors for living room are highly popular these days. When designing your living room, the best way to get a truly stylish and appealing modern look without sacrificing comfort is by opting for a leather sofa set. While it is true that leather furniture is costlier than fabric furniture, leather is known for its durability and ever lasting service. Leather sofa set matches well with any kind of modern interiors. There are many options available for leather furniture, right from entire sets to smaller accent pieces. Also leather furniture is easy to maintain.

Selection of leather sofa sets can get confusing especially when you realize many similar alternatives yet so different in their own way. Leather furniture comes in diverse kinds of leather with different grades and different pricing. As leather is expensive, buying the most high-priced leather furniture does not always mean you are getting the best. Looks can be deceptive hence you should know what you need the most e.g. selecting an extra large size of leather sofa set for a small room, only for its look, is a bad choice.

Being a sensible buyer you have to keep certain key points in mind when out for furniture shopping. The first and most important is realizing your needs versus your desires. You might want to buy a luxurious leather sofa bed with the smartest design and color, but that might be over your budget and not fitting the living space. Always choose simple and best. There are several options that can suit both your needs and desires; you just have to hunt for them. Good research on the web can reduce your work and help you find your choice faster.

The next significant point is the quality of the leather used. Going with the cheap furniture can sometimes lead to severe damage leading to extra expense. It’s always a good choice to spend a little extra rather than investing in a cheap piece of furniture where durability is suspect. Faux leather sofa set are good substitutes of originals. They are good in quality, durable, chic and cheap.

Last but not the least is to choose the right color of the sofa. Black, white, red, silver, dark brown and chrome are popular modern color choices. Dark brown leather sofas are very attractive and highly popular. They create an attractive, yet classic setting to the unique objects that decorate the room. In addition, they highlight the straight lines of the furnishings.

While using any kind of popular decorating styles, leather furniture adds to the sophistication of the house. Though some may argue that leather sofas do not prove attractive for long run, the truth is that its charm grows with age. It is important to remember that leather sofa set is one piece of furniture that can be compared to “the little black dress”; both of which will never go out of style.

Getting Creative! How to Make your Own Twin Sofa Bed

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

Do you live in a small dorm or studio apartment? If you do, you are probably familiar with the difficulties of trying to combine style with functionality. This may be a particular problem when you want to add a little pizzazz to the central piece of furniture in your dorm, studio or efficiency apartment.

However, just because you have limited space doesn’t mean you can’t add style. In fact, this is where you could allow your creativity to shine through. With some imagination and forethought, you could have a living space that is perfect for both day and night. This could be accomplished by turning your twin bed into a sofa. In the evening, you could switch your sofa back into a twin bed.

The Pros and Cons of Turning Your Twin Bed into a Sofa

To begin, you would need a twin platform bed, mate’s bed or any twin bed that doesn’t have a headboard or post. It is important to note, that due to their width, a full, queen or king size bed would not convert nicely into a couch. This would not give the look or feel that you’d want (not to mention, it would look quite silly).

The obvious advantage of turning your twin bed into a sofa would be that you already have the primary element for this design–a twin bed. This equals savings, as you would only need to purchase a few odds and ends to convert your bed into a lovely sofa for daytime living.

Another pro would be that unlike a futon, you would not need to perform additional steps to make your twin bed into a sofa. All that is necessary would be adding additional pillows against the back of the bed to give it the look of a sofa.

One disadvantage of converting your bed into a couch would be that this idea wouldn’t be suitable if you share your space with someone else. For example, if you live in a dorm this might make it difficult. However, there are chances this still could work if your roommate uses a hide-away bed that saves on space. It all really just depends on the situation.

If you decide to go with this idea, one last thing…

You may find the biggest con to be the height of your bed in comparison to daybeds, futons and sofas. Platform beds are substantially lower compared to daybeds. So, keep that in mind when considering this option, and if the difference in height doesn’t bother you, then using it as a sofa would not be a problem.

If you can afford to spend some extra money but still find you don’t like the height-issues that come with platform beds, this could be easily remedied by boosting the height of your bed with an extra mattress or box spring. Another option would be to purchase inexpensive bed lifts or risers. They could add an additional 1 to 10 inches or more to the height of your bed.

Yet, a word of warning, risers only work if your bed has legs. If not, you would need to add height by using an extra mattress or box spring.

Lesson 101: Turning your Twin Bed into a Sofa with Style

To turn your twin bed into a sofa, you would simply place it width-wise against a wall (like a daybed). Next, you could add height by using bed risers or an extra box spring or mattress. That is the basics, now onto the creative and fun aspect of switching your twin bed into a sofa and vice versa. This section will reveal how you could add a personal touch and make your twin sofa bed uniquely your own.

Use appropriate bedding

How could you make your bed most resemble a sofa? The answer is simple, use appropriate bedding. This could be accomplished by purchasing a bed skirt or a bedding set. This would allow you to cover the legs of your bed and would give it the look of a sofa with upholstered flaps. If you use bed risers, make sure to have them in place first before buying the bedding. That way, you could take measurements to ensure that the bedding is long enough to cover the legs once the risers are in place.

Use pillows

Pillows are ideal for creating a faux backing to your bed and faux arms. Pillows could be switched around to accommodate a sofa and a bed. For evening, you could place the pillows at the head of the bed for sleeping. And during the day you could place the pillows in the back for support, comfort and look and feel. As for the arms, you could place bolsters on each side of the bed to fool the eyes into believing your sofa isn’t armless.

Create your own upholstered backing

If using pillows exclusively for backing doesn’t appeal to you, another option would be to create an upholstered backing for your sofa bed. This may sound as if it would put a dent in your pocketbook, but upholstered backing could be made inexpensively without compromising on style or showroom appeal.

The main supplies you would need to make an upholstered backing are…

plywood
upholstery foam
and fabric

Keep in mind, it is also important to take measurements before starting on this project to determine the height that you desire for your headboard. What makes this project so affordable is that if you do not possess the tools needed to size the plywood, you could take it to a local hardware store and have them cut it for you at a fraction of the cost.

Once you’re ready to get started, there are various tutorials on the Internet that could assist you in creating a headboard. A nice one worth mentioning is Make Your Own Upholstered Headboard. It should help you along quite nice and give you a few other ideas on decorative style in the process.

Once you’re finished, you’ll find that the upholstered headboard lends an element of class to your space. Creating your own one-of-a-kind headboard will add a sense of accomplishment. It will also be perfectly suited to your taste and style, and as a bonus you can bet you’ll get plenty of compliments from your friends in the process.

Have You Considered Using A Microfiber Sofa In Your Home

Wednesday, October 7th, 2009

Sofa beds can be ideal in most homes and they can come in extremely handy. Just be sure that you test the sofa bed out before you take it home.

Getting the right sofa for your home can be just as important as anything when it comes to furnishing the room after decorating it. Generally it can help to make or break a new look and also it can help to add some extra character to the room too. There are a number of sofas to choose from and one which you may find the most convenient for you is a sofa bed. One particularly good type of sofa bed is the Microfiber type.

Why Choose a Microfiber Sofa Bed and What to Look Out For

Sofa beds are extremely convenient as they obviously have two different purposes. Most of the time you could use them for just sitting on, relaxing whilst watching television, and other times you could unfold them out into a bed. This is ideal if you have unexpected guests or if you just fancy lying watching a film in the comfort of your living room.

Now when it comes to actually choosing a sofa bed, there are a number of things that you need to take into account. The first is who will actually be using the sofa bed? You can purchase sofa beds which fold out into either a double or a single bed and if a couple will be using it then obviously you will need a double fold out bed. As well as the number of people who will be using the sofa bed, you also have to look at how big the room is. There are different sized sofa beds that you can purchase and it would be a good idea to measure your room before you settle on a particular one.

When you are looking at various sofa beds, what you really want to look at is the quality of each one. When you take the cushions off the sofa bed, can you see any wood? If so you should not purchase it as all you should really see is an upholstered surface. The wood is likely to make the sofa bed feel really uncomfortable so always opt for upholstered surfaces. Just to test how comfortable the sofa bed is anyway, you should sit on it just as you would at home. This helps to give you an idea of what to expect. Sometimes a sofa can look a lot more comfortable than what it is so it is vital that you test it out beforehand.

Finally another thing which you should look out for is just how easy it is to unfold the sofa into a bed. Ideally it should unfold and pull out really smoothly. If it doesn’t you could have problems when you get it home. Overall you need to be 100% certain that the sofa bed is going to be comfortable, the right size to fit into the room and that there are no faults on the sofa bed before you purchase it. That way you can be sure that when you do actually get your new sofa bed home, that you will enjoy it as much as possible.

Sectional Sofa

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

Decorating your home for the maximum space you can get out of the rooms that you have could include the use of a sectional sofa in the living room or in the family room. A sectional sofa is one that will be a long couch, a long joining sitting area. A sectional sofa will be delivered to your home in pieces, and then bolted together when it arrives at your home. A sectional sofa will include the use of ten foot, or even up to sixteen foot in length. The longer the sectional sofa, the more immobile that sofa is going to be.

If you have child, you know that you need more seats and more space in your living areas. The sectional sofa is going that is going to give you at least three seats at one time without feeling you are crowded at all. if you have an even larger family you could invest in a matching loveseat to go along with your sectional sofa, so you will create two more seats in the living room. The sectional sofa can include up to eight seats if you arrange it properly. One of the best things about the sectional sofa is that you are not going to have mismatched patterns, as the material over the sofa is going to be the same.

Sectional sofas are created for living spaces that you can enjoy. A sectional sofa can include an ice chest between seats, or it can include an armrest that will be a beverage holder. Some types of sectional sofas now include two or three reclining chairs all in the same sofa. This is a great way to relax, enjoy your home, and without having to have four different recliners in the same room.

A regular sofa does not seem to give you the same big cushions or space that a sectional sofa does. The sectional sofa is going to give you seating areas, without taking up more than the space along the wall. If you have two regular sofas, you find you need space or an end table between them, but with a sectional sofa you can have the corner connected, and it will also be another seating area for those in your home.

A sectional sofa can be created from any type of material that you want. From the corduroy to the soft fuzzy feeling of velour, your sectional sofa is one that will complete your home while giving you a feeling of comfort and relaxation in your home.

Things to Consider When Buying a Sofa

Sunday, June 21st, 2009

You have decided to purchase a new sofa and you know it needs to last for many years. There are some very important things you need to consider. These may include style of sofa, type of fabric, and, of course, price.

The style of sofa you choose can be determined by the intended use. Do you need the sofa to provide a place to sleep for more than one person? A sectional sofa can provide excellent seating, but if you will need the sofa to provide a sleeping area, you may want to consider a sleeper sofa.

Which Sofa Back is Right for You?

Once you have decided what type of sofa you need, you will need to concentrate on what type of back should be on your sofa. There are generally four types of backs to choose from: tight back, attached pillow back, loose pillow back, and loose multi pillow backs.

A tight back sofa is a sofa with no pillows. It usually sits upright and the fabric chosen is generally easier to clean because there is no way to remove the fabric to clean it.

An attached pillow back refers to a sofa that actually has the pillows sewn to the back of the sofa. This particular type of sofa is easy to maintain, in that, there are no pillows to put back; however, it can be more difficult to clean. The pillows cannot be turned if they get stained so it is important to choose a fabric that is easy to clean and one that wears well.

A loose pillow back sofa is one that has the same number of pillows as cushions. The pillows are not attached to the sofa back and the loose pillows allow them to be turned to extend the life of the pillow. The couch tends to be quite comfortable.

The last type of sofa back is the loose multi pillow back sofa. This sofa can be difficult to maintain because the pillows tend to get everywhere and need constant arranging. The pillows can be turned at will to prevent excessive wear.

What Types of Fabric are Best?

Now that you have determined the style of your new sofa, you will need to determine what type of fabric you desire. Some of the fabrics available include: microfiber, leather, and cloth.

Microfiber is an excellent fabric for a sofa especially if you have pets or small children. Microfiber, also called micro suede or ultra suede, is actually a micro denier weave of 100% polyester. It is extremely durable and can usually be cleaned with water. It is also comfortable even in the warmest of climates.

Leather is a good choice if you are in a moderate climate. The humidity and cold adversely affect the comfort level of the leather so it is advisable to use leather in a moderate climate unless adequate climate control is in effect. Leather can also be costly to repair should a rip occur.

Cloth fabric is available in a wider array of colors and patterns than the other two fabric choices, but it tends to be more difficult to clean than microfiber. It is usually easier to repair than leather so it makes a great fabric choice.

Price is an important consideration when you are deciding to purchase a sofa. However, the overall price is not as important as the amount of quality you get for the money. It is imperative to purchase a sofa that has “good bones” as the fabric can always be changed should the color palate of your room change. A sofa with “good bones” will last you for a long time. You will ultimately spend less money for this type of furniture because you will need to purchase fewer sofas.

Purchasing a sofa is a good home investment. Remember, quality is imperative for long lasting satisfaction.

Find the Best Sofa Set for your Home

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

If you are planning to get good sofa sets for your house, you will have to keep many factors in mind. Though sofas may seem to be the easiest things to buy, actually you may have to give consideration to many aspects of your house and future sofa usage while deciding on the best piece. Thus, take a good look around your house and think about the inhabitants of the house before moving towards a furniture store.

Sizing of the sofa is the primary thing to be considered. You have to think of the size of the room in which you are planning to keep the sofa set. Also, if you are planning to keep the sofa in a room on an upper floor, you will have to think of the size of the stairs too. Alternatively, you could end up spending a packet on hiring a crane to lift your piece-de-resistance!

You will also have to buy a sofa that does not look incongruous in the decor of your house. A funky, pink colored sofa will definitely not look good in a very formally decorated living room. Similarly, a heavy Oak wood handcrafted sofa set will look awkward with modern living room furniture. Thus, keep the overall look in mind while purchasing the sofa. Also, give due importance to the color of the sofa. A neutral color like black, cream, brown or gray can look good anywhere. However a color like bright orange might cry out for attention in an elegant room.

Next is the fabric of the sofa set. In most cases people keep their sofas in the living room and use it very often. For any family gathering or even simple reclining, the sofa is singled out for use. Moreover, if you have kids in your house, the sofa will be used perpetually. Thus, choosing white satin sofas in such cases will not be wise. The upkeep of such sofas is very high and they tend to wear out very quickly. If your sofa will be used in formal occasions only, you can splurge and get the best quality fabric for the sofa. In case, the use of sofa is informal, get more practical fabric that is easy to maintain.

For sofas that will have to see umpteen accidents in the form of spilled drinks, mashed foods or rubbed soil, it is best to select fabrics that are dark in color. Also, you could buy fabrics with busy prints so that the stains are not visible. You also need to consider the kind of comfort level you expect from your sofa. Sofas may be very firm or very fluffy. The back side could be tight or fitted with removable pillows.

Also, while selecting the sofa, keep in mind the number of people you want to seat. Recliners that are cushioned may be able to seat only two people comfortably. So, if you want more people to fit into a sofa, keep that in mind while deciding your piece.

You Need to Place an Office Sofa in the Correct Place

Saturday, May 30th, 2009

These dynamics may not only affect the perception of customers and future customers, but on the staff as well.  These dynamics are further complemented when the office sofa is situated in specific areas.

Just as location is important in real estate so is the location of where an office sofa will be situated.  Some of the typical locations for a sofa would be the CEO’s office, the lobby or in the staff lounge.

CEO’s Office

The CEO’s office is the hub where critical decisions are made that affect the current status of the company and future successes.  That is why an office sofa located within the CEO’s office should be one that represents authority, durability, classic stylishness and yet warmth.

Such an example of a CEO’s couch would be an office sofa that is constructed of leather.  A leather couch, both practically and symbolically, represents durability, classic designs, warmth and the feel of authority.

When existing or new customers enter into an office that is furnished with an office sofa made of leather, the perception will be one of meeting with a successful business person.  In addition, formal meetings held in the bosses’ office with staff may enhance the team’s synergy and yet maintain a professional decorum which is required to conduct a successful business.

The Lobby

Another critical area of the company that may benefit from the location of an office sofa is the lobby.  The lobby is the focal point of any business in which customers, business associates, staff, shareholders, etc. receive their first impression of the business.

There are a number of styles of office sofas that can be placed in the lobby to reflect the attitude and thinking of the progressive business.  For example, if the company wishes to reflect their foreword and cutting edge philosophy, then the placing of a modern contemporary office sofa in the lobby may be indicated.  Or, if the company wishes to reflect their conservative and successful history, then perhaps the choice of a leather office sofa may contribute to that image effectively.
Staff Lounge

The success of any business is contingent on a dedicated, experienced, knowledgeable and hard-working staff.  Therefore, the business may wish to provide amenities to the staff.  These amenities may practically demonstrate the company’s appreciation and acknowledge the staff’s value.

One of these amenities could be the placing of an office sofa in the staff lounge.  This particular office sofa could provide a comfortable resting place for personnel to put their feet up and relax.

Suggestions for this type of sofa could be one that is not too soft or too firm.  Also, an office sofa that is easy on the eyes and is made of a fabric that is very durable and resists stains.

Sofa Frame

Saturday, April 25th, 2009

Sofa frames are the basic elements of your typical sofa. These frames are the foundations of your sofa. All the other parts of the sofa is made to rest on these frames. Sofa frames are a sofa’s skeletal system. Needless to say, when buying a sofa, one needs to choose the sturdiest frame possible. Choosing quality sofa frames is perhaps as important as choosing the kind of upholstery for aesthetic elements or the the kind of cushion and springs to cover comfort elements.

Perhaps, the best question to ask is what kind of material is the best possible make for a sofa frame?

The best frames are made of kiln-dried hardwood. Kilns are huge ovens often used for baking ceramics into usable objects like the vases, or the ceramic plates and bowls. And yes, even your decorative figurines are kiln-baked. Kilns are also used for terra cotta creations like bricks or flower pots.

The best hardwood used for sofa frames should be kiln-dried. Kiln-drying prevents the hardwood from cracking and it spares your hardwood from the perils brought about by atmospheric humidity. When hardwood is exposed to seasonal changes, it has the tendency to crack. When this happens, your entire sofa is compromised.

Metal is good material for making sofa frames with as well. But metals are prone to oxidation with the seasonal changes. Again, changes in humidity will have an effect on your metal frame. It is perhaps best if you make sure that the sofa frame that you have acquired is treated so the metal frame is protected against atmospheric elements such as air humidity and sudden changes in temperature.

It is of epic importance that a sofa frame is sturdy. The sofa frame not on only holds the weight of the upholstery and the springs, but the weight of the person or persons using it. Imagine this, grandma and grandpa are in town to visit. Grandma is a type II diabetic and is unbelievably fat. You seat her on your sofa. Call in grandpa (who probably isn’t diabetic but is equally fat). You seat him on the same sofa. You’re little nieces and nephews rush over to sit on grandpa and grandma’s laps. The kids wrestle each other for the most comfortable spots for a while before you holler at them to sit still. Of course your hollering doesn’t work. In the real world, screaming your orders at school age kids just won’t work. So you just leave them be. Grandma and grandpa don’t seem to be bothered with the ruckus anyway. So your sofa holds grandma, grandpa and the hyper-active kids. And then you realized that you failed to ask the furniture shop attendant regarding the sofa frame material. Lo and behold, the sofa frame turned out to be of substandard quality. It’s creaking and squeaking and then it gives.

Grandma, grandpa, the little kids along with your plush upholstery and cushions came crashing down.

All these simply because you did not consider your sofa frame when you bought your sofa.

Sofa Tables-Dress Up Your Living Room Furniture

Wednesday, April 15th, 2009

Placing a sofa table behind your couch is a great way to provide display space and a little extra spot for setting a drink. A beautiful sofa table can also provide a great way to dress up the back of your sofa when you need to place it in the center of the room. A sofa spruced up with a sofa table behind it is a great way to break up a room, creating separate seating areas without the use of walls.

Sofa tables are available in any style to suit your home. Before you choose a table, consider how much of a focal point you want the table to make in your room. If your sofa table is going against a wall, hidden behind your sofa, or if you want the pieces displayed on the table to take center stage, consider a simple no fuss design, like a shaker style table. However, if your sofa table will be out in the middle of the room, you may want its details to be a focal point just as much as the items you display there. If that’s the case, consider the details of your table carefully. Sofa tables with turned wooden legs or those made from curved metal can lend style and grace to your room. Choose a table with a beautifully finished wooden top or an elegant glass or marble top to give your display items a beautiful place to rest.

If you need extra display space, or a nice little bookshelf, take a look at the sofa tables available that have a bottom shelf. It’s a great place to stash books or other art objects. Finally, don’t forget to look at sofa tables that include small drawers. These little drawers can be great for storing little items like candle snuffers and matches out of sight.

Sofa tables can enhance nearly any living room space. Not only do they provide a great place to display your most prized possessions, they offer function and finished look to your living room.
